I found a broken wheel centre cap on the Subaru a little while ago. I’m not sure how it got broken (I blame the last tire shop I visited) but I don’t think it would have stayed on much longer had I not noticed it when I did.
There’s no “before” picture for this one, just a fixed cap. I replaced the broken teeth with two bent pieces of thin aluminum. To get the bends just right, I removed the wheel from the car (with the cap in place) and turned it around to access the back of the centre cap. I could then try different bends to get it just right. The bent aluminum strips needed to be just right to sit in the recess in the wheel, and needed to provide a constant pressure to hold the cap in place.
The cap now slots into place with a reassuring “click”.
